The Alpha Course

Picture
St John’s is proud to be a part of the worldwide ‘Alpha’ movement.
Since its major launch in 1993 Alpha Courses have been attended by over 2.5 million people in the UK and 16 million worldwide. Currently there are 8,500 courses being run in the UK, and 47,000 in 164 countries in 112 different languages.

The course provides an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, and the answers which the Christian faith claims to provide. We examine such questions as ‘Does God exist?’, ‘Why is there suffering?’ and ‘How can I make sense of the Bible?’ in the context of food, teaching and small group discussion. Some people who come on the course have some kind of belief, but would say that for them the cosmic penny has never quite dropped. Others know next to nothing about Christianity and want to begin to explore from scratch. So wherever you’re starting from, Alpha could be for you.

There is also a 'Part 2' follow-up 'Alpha Plus' course for those who have enjoyed Alpha and want to go deeper.

We aim to run three courses each year. There is no charge, and each begins with a ‘taster’ party at which you can hear more about Alpha without actually signing up for anything.
