Belonging to a larger church can feel a bit like trying to ‘belong’ to a cinema, so our network of Homegroups provide a smaller, more intimate place to grow closer to other people and learn and grow together. Meeting fortnightly Homegroups provide an opportunity to study and apply the Bible’s teaching to real life. Many of them take further the teaching from the 10:45 service, with opportunities to discuss, question and sometimes to disagree! But the emphasis is on providing a safe place where we can encourage one another to grow as Jesus’ followers and to live out our faith 24/7.
There is a large variety of Homegroups meeting at different times during the week, each with a slightly different style and flavour. Homegroup leaders keep fresh with regular input at monthly ‘VAT’ meetings for Vision-casting, Application to their own groups, and in-service training.
During Lent we shall again be following the Diocesan 'Finding Welcome' course, and meeting weekly rather than fortnightly. We are particularly wanting to include those who choose not to belong to a Homegroup all year round, so that we can get as full a picture as we can of how our welcome is perceived. Feedback from the groups will inform a major PCC discussion later in the year.
But even if you're not part of a Homegroup, we'd still like to hear from you. We'll be using a diagnostic questionnaire to gain as wide a picture as we can of our church's welcome, and we'd love you to fill one in (anonymously, of course). This will give us a much wider base from which to gather information, and hopefully will pinpoint clearly some actions we can begin to take. Download the questionnaires here, and return them to the box at the back of church before Easter. Thanks!
You can have a look at the Diocesan Material here.
If you’d like to talk about joining a Homegroup or a Lent Group, please contact John the Vicar.
